Lately, I’ve been thinking about the pressure we put on ourselves.
We say we we must “do better,” “be better, "stop doing this thing we enjoy but know is bad for us,” and "start doing this other thing we know is good for us but don't enjoy.... "
Big goals. Big expectations. And honestly? Most of us don’t need a dramatic overhaul. We just need to keep doing the things that already support us, and make tiny shifts that feel doable on real-life, real-energy days.
That’s been my focus these past few weeks: not reinventing myself, just… maintaining what works and adding small things that help me feel more grounded, energised, and a little more me.
🌿 Tiny tweaks
For me, it’s looked like:
- Walking to school rather than driving — nothing heroic, just a gentle start to the day, some fresh air, and a moment to actually arrive rather than rush.
- Swapping a bag of crisps for carrot sticks and hummus — not every day, but often enough that I feel the difference.
- Journaling for a few minutes — not pages and pages, just a quick brain-dump or a sentence about how I’m feeling.
- Moving my body — a workout, a stretch, a walk… whatever fits.
- Noticing the small wins — the things I’d usually brush past: choosing water, closing the laptop on time, saying no when I needed to.
None of these things are big. None of them would make a dramatic before-and-after photo. But together? They’re helping me feel more steady, more intentional, more in tune with myself.
🌤️ Maintaining what already supports us
I think we underestimate how powerful it is to simply keep going with the things that work. The routines that anchor us. The habits that make life feel smoother. The boundaries we’ve learned to hold.
It’s easy to chase the next new thing, the new plan, the new routine, the new version of ourselves. But sometimes the real growth is in staying with what we know helps, even when it’s not shiny or exciting.
🔄 Small steps = real momentum
What I’m learning is that small changes don’t just add up, they reinforce our identity. Every time I choose the walk, the carrot sticks, the journal, the early night, I’m reminding myself: I’m someone who looks after myself.
It’s not about perfection. It’s not about doing everything every day. It’s about choosing one small thing that nudges you in the direction you want to go.
🌱 A gentle invitation
If you’re in a season where big goals feel overwhelming, maybe this is your reminder that you don’t need them. You can start with what’s already working. You can add one tiny shift. You can celebrate the smallest win.
Growth doesn’t have to be loud.
Sometimes it’s as simple as a walk to school, a handful of carrots, a few honest words on a page, or a moment of noticing that you did something good for yourself today.
And that’s more than enough.
